LAUREN SAFFA
Film Editor

Meet Lauren

Lauren Saffa is an Emmy Award-winning documentary film editor. Her recent work includes the docuseries Social Studies by Lauren Greenfield (Telluride Film Festival, 2024) which examines teens and social media, and the feature documentary Subject (TriBeCa Film Festival, 2022) which explores the ethics of documentary filmmaking itself.

Other notable film credits include The Cost of Silence (Sundance, 2020), the Emmy-winning Blackfeet Boxing, as well as Do You Trust This Computer, and Hooligan Sparrow (Oscar shortlisted).  Her television credits include HBO’s Unveiled and Netflix’s Song Exploder.

Lauren’s interest in socially and culturally impactful films began early in her career, when she co-produced and edited Another World, about the Occupy Wall Street movement (Berlin International Film Festival, 2014). She went on to collaborate with Director Fisher Stevens on multiple projects, including Deepest Dive for BBC America and My Decisions for Microsoft.

A graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts / Gallatin, Lauren also studied film in Cuba at La Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano. She has produced acclaimed political documentary theater for The Culture Project, including the short film series War Against Wars, which premiered at the United Nations.

Growing up as the daughter of veteran documentary filmmaker, Joan Saffa, Lauren was raised with a deep-rooted passion for storytelling. She had the opportunity to share this passion with her mom on the film Looking Through the Eyes of AIDS, which they filmed together in Myanmar.

Lauren lives in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles, with her husband and their two children.
